Dowen was founded in 1982 by Denis Dowen and has grown into one of the largest independent estate agencies in the North East, with seven branches across Durham, Hartlepool, Peterlee, Seaham, Sedgefield, Spennymoor and Sunderland, plus Auction Stores.
In 2020 the business was bought by John Nicholson and Trudie Bowes, who have invested in new technology, new branches and new people while keeping the local, personal service Dowen is known for.
In 2012 Dowen became a founding member of the Great North Property Auction, and auctions remain a big part of what we do. We are members of the NAEA and The Property Ombudsman.
